I'm picking it up later for scraps but I was curious about the year. I make it 1996.

What say you?

You need to buy a lottery ticket on the way home!

why? I admit, I don't know much about Kona bikes

or maybe I detect sarcasm

You've got yourself a very nice bike.

If that's the kind of thing you find for scrap you must have a very very lucky streak...therefore, one might consider getting a lottery ticket.

It's a common saying, it just means you're very lucky

Got it last night. Heavily weathered with rust stains. Brakes don't work, needs new cables, grips, saddle. From what I can tell only the front wheel is not original. The person I picked it was a scavenger - he found it in a garbage dump somewhere. His English was bad and get this - when he put up the add he spelled it "bycicle" and maybe that's why it didn't show up on searches...

Anyway, it is Cinder Cone, and probably 1996. The perfect restoration project!

Almost forgot... I did buy 2 lottery tickets on the way back. Drawing is on Saturday

Re:

The BB is gone and the bigger problem - the seatpost is seized. Luckily I've had some experience with that (involving caustic soda) but I'd rather not go that route and save the original seatpost if I can.
