What Year Is This Boxxer Pro and Is It Adjustable?

Last week I was taking a few 4 foot drops on my FSR DH and after reviewing the video mounted on my frame I was able to see the forks bottom out. The last thing I want to do is mess up my forks; so what to do?
I've been looking on line for replacment springs; beefier ones that'll take a 8 foot drop! But nothin' to be found.
I've adjusted the black and red knobs on the bottom of the forks but they don't seem to do anything at all.
Any ideas?

I just saw someone elses thread on here and they've got a GT with '98 Boxxer Pro that are identical to my Boxxers.

Hi

They are indeed '98s. The pro is a rare fork AFAIK. Equivalent of the World Cup models now, and the first time before SRAM took over that there was more than one Boxxer model in one manufacture year.

The damping adjustments on the bottom are rebound and low speed compression. I found the compression adjustment was pretty much impossible to tell if it did anything. The rebound is noticeable but doesnt have the same range of adjustment as 'Zocchi forks have.

There were a range of springs for them which you would probably have to as Tim Flooks about as I think they are specific to the travel for that year. You can increase/decrease the preload with spacers that live just under the top caps, but it won't make much difference if you are blasting through travel.

The pre 2003 model Boxxers are much more receptive to damping oil weight changes than newer forks. Also as one side does compression and one does rebound, you can tune both independently.

Hope that helped a bit.

and if you want to sell it let me know! I recently had one stolen. :( ;)

*it's only a 6" travel fork, which is bordering on single-crown travel compared to modern forks, so don't be expecting orgasms on the big drop-offs
