What year is my Rocky Mountain Cirrus ?

Hi all,

I picked up a Rocky Mountain Cirrus a few days ago, but don't know what year it was build in. I know they only made 'm a few years from 1990 on..., but I would like to know the exact year (so I can get the right decals for it...).

The frame number is: YA08190

Hope anyone can help me out... and/or maybe has some pics of a Rocky Mountain from the same year with the right decals on it...

(I'll take some photo's later on this week and perhaps start a build thread)

1990/91/92 they where Rocky Models.
No idea from the serial, pics may help if it's still as original.

1990 was a raw silver bike with white and red shadow decals
1991 was a pearl clearcoat and had red with black shadow decals
1992 was just 'natural' so probably a clearcoat. and green with I think a darker green shadow ?

1990/1 designed around Syncros rigid fork.
1992 was 're-geometry-fied' around RockShox 2" MAG suspension fork.

It wasn't original anymore... The seller build it into some F#@k!ng downhill machine (as he said).... so only the frame was left of the original Rocky Mountain Cirrus bike..

I watched in the catalogeus and... than I 'walked' into the problem... The frame was raw aluminium and one original sticker was left in place. It said 'Cirrus' in black with a white shadow... :?
I've seen these before (the black with the white shadow), but don't know the year anymore....

Eventually that was the plan..., but in first place I'll build it up so it's rideable.. for my girl..., so perhaps put in a Manitou EFC witch is unemployed right now.. and some Shimano XT and XTR stuff... During the next months I'll keep my eyes open for some proper Syncros parts and the right Shimano XT hubs, mechs and so on...
A Syncros PowerLite would be nice, some day...

Does anybody know the Cirrus with the black and white shadow decals ?

Probably an early one as stickers changed, seen some others with different stickers around then. Get a picture up andyway.

The only other Cirrus number I have (year i cannot remember) is YA16884 which may indicate the first number might or might not be a year, but does show the 90 at the end doesn't mean 1990.

I figured out it's not a 1990 model, since these have 27.2 seatposts... Mine has 30.4...

Wednesday I can make some pics, but I doubt if that will help...

Anybody got some pics of a 1991 and/or 1992 model ?

I looked in the catalogues, but still am not able to find one with the black/white decals...

YA0… 1991
YA1… 1992

recent 1991 acquired is clearcoated and which has become crap at that. See my post a few posts down. Original stock full Syncros and XT…

my 1992 is raw alum, no clear coat. Black on white decals seems to have been a frame only option, as that's how I had bought it…

And she will be built up, parts are amassed, just need to decide on the forks. Would love some syncros of course, but I've not got that kind of money, so was thinking of going crazy and running law will leader forks on it.

Now I didn't realise that the finish was supposed to be dull Alu, and was going to polish to a shine, should I do this? Oh, sorry for the thread hijack btw.

Don't go Syncros, the 92 wasn't designed for it, it was designed for 2" travel forks (so they say)
So... Go Crazy muHAHAHAHHA

Polish, sticker and clearcoat it! it'll go dull in time anyway.
