@ lewis those krakatoas were pretty good , i liked mine a lot

my first real mtb was a db topanga ,second was the carrera

i dont think i gave mine the respect it deserved really. that thing took me miles. we were inseperable for 2 or 3 years. the weight and lack of cool factor (ie being young and reading mbuk) led to it being replaced by a merlin special alloy frame, by that time every single other component had been replaced.

the carrera was heavy but capable. kinda miss it

My first mtb (proper or otherwise) was a pylon orange 1990 Wicked Fat with XC Pro.

I was lucky enough to get it right the first time and fortunate enough to hold onto it. Someday it will get the restoration it deserves.

This is mine.....

1988 Jamis Dakota. I saved all summer to buy this and picked it up cheap in 1989 as it was last years display model.
This isn't my actual first one but one I found a few years ago, rebuilt and now keep in Germany for when I'm there with work :D

.

I built my own when i was about 17(1990).
Lime green Ammaco branded frame and forks
Araya rimmed wheels
Suntour mechs and shifters, with Stronglight chainset
Stem from a Dawes, a v shaped double clamp affair and wide bars with a fair bit of sweep.
Rode it for a while, but got offered more than it had cost to build at the same time as I passed my driving test.
Sold her and bought a MK2 1.6 Ghia Escort

1992 Orange Clockwork Matt black with full LX bar the DX thumbies and Dia-Compe SS5 levers, It later sported Ritchey Logic Crank set, USE bars and seat post, Control stix bar ends and White Porc on the front, Smoke light on the back. Loved it but never got any RC35's
Don't even think I could put my fingers on a pic of it.

Raleigh 'Mountain Bike Team'.

It was my Dad's, and when I got properly 'into' MTBing, he let me have it (it was a damn sight cooler than my Raleigh Lizard!).

It had 18 speed Suntour gears. I fitted a Girvin Flexstem, some bar ends and my first set of toe-clips!

I loved this bike to death, rode it day in day out in the summer holidays......ahh, the memories.......

I threw this together a year or so back as a misty eyed memory.
