What was your best investment in a modern part for you bike?

Certain Flite Titaniums... Yes, those ones, a reissue dubbed the Flite 1990

I absolutely love the Flite 1990. It's a shame they don't have a version with more modern rails though.
I tried putting one of my Flite 1990s on one of those KCNC Ti Pro Lite seatposts, and it just looked odd because I couldn't move the seat back enough. They really demand a seat post with a bit of setback in the head.

pete_mmc - The ti-bow is my dream frame, but a Ti hardtail and Ti road bike. I'm way jealous.

Just a small fetish of mine!

Modern saddles on riders, retro on garage queens. The SMP saddles are my preferred weapon of choice and are supremely comfy.

I agree with cce, best investment? Modern tyres.

Still blown away every ride by how much grip is available on good modern rubber. Also the dropper post is a fantastic thing, I'd genuinely fit one to every bike (maybe even the weenie  ).

But way above all that ... waterproof shorts! Without a shadow of a doubt the best money I ever spent on anything bike-related

SRAM X7 3x9-speed shifters for my red WOT...

...so much better than Shimano; and remind me why I changed to STi's in the first place BiTD (DX 7-speeds on my cro-mega) ;)

Suspension forks and disc brakes for me,with my Hopes I can lock the front up with one finger if I want, perhaps an extreme example but it's there if I need it. Likewise suspension, it's a thousand times better these days, my old Rock Shox were awful compared to my Mavericks (which are 5 years old themselves and designed by the same bloke! There's a story in itself...)

Nothing wrong with old bikes and kit, but in certain aspects new is definitely better (if not necessarily nicer!)
