Not the best picture. But what type? The other parts I have for a fitting of Trimble frame.
Thanks

Yes the big S. The gizmo is to make smoother shifts. So it's a bottom pull mech?

without seeing the part where the cable bolts on I can't be sure but the shimano mechs with that type of cam I believe are both bottom and top pull compatible so it is a bit strange that a mech which can be top pull is modified to work as bottom pull - I don't think the gizmo is a smoother but a pull direction converter.

here is best photo I could find :

Way back in time, front mech were down pull, the cable running along the underside of the down tube. At some point, early 90s perhaps, mtbs appeared that had both shifter and rear brake cables either running along the side or along the top of top tube thus requiring a pull direction converter for the front mech. This usually was a small pulley wheel near the bb to reverse the cable direction. I still belive that gizmo in photo is doing the same and i guess it is there for originality even though it is not needed on that model of front mech.

I would keep it and fit period correct mech; its a bit special.

You have saved me job. I won't bother fitting the gizmo to mine. Leave this well alone. As its all working fine.
