what to use on brake lever hoods

My falcon banana bike brake hoods were originally white and when I got the bike there were black from muck,I've cleaned them up as best as I can but they are still mucky any ideas of what to use to get them whiter?

Ive used degreaser on grips before, which turned them into a sort of sticky soap.
White spirit was a bit better on some other ones, but they were never the same again.
Fairy liquid?

Sorry, I don't really have a good answer.

Was going to use bleach but not sure if it will ruin them.

Aldi's own washing up liquid, baby wipes, tooth brush… simple.
