What to do with an unknown Steel Frameset. Nervex Pro Lugs

cipolinni

Old School Grand Master
Recently found lightweight steel frameset
Very nice looking frame with pencil thin seat stays and Nervex Pro lugs
I have asked here before about it but no solid ideas as to what or who built it.
It really needs to be finished to experience it's beauty
Some nice braze-ons. One on the rear seat tube for CO2 cartridge and two on the downtube for a bottle cage

What I have done is build it up as a turbo training bike for myself for the winter
Campagnolo Record Headset and Seatpost
TA chainset with single TA 48 ring
Suntour VX rear mech 5-Speed with 13-24 block

Frame size:
C-C Top Tube 57cm
C-T Seat Tube 58cm

Any response welcome

End of winter time will probably decide to sell the frameset
We'll see

Thanks for looking

Re:

Thanks for your response
No holes for a headbadge
When I received it the frame had been hand painted blue with a brush!!!!!
I have removed and polished the frame but needs more time and patience

Re:

I quite like the bare frame look
Nice patina etc
Maybe finish it to a higher standard and laquer

Could have been built by any one of a multitude of builders in the 50's. They all had access to the same basic parts and often built frames to customers specifications so different builders often produced remarkably similar frames. The CO2 pumps were out of fashion by the early 60's but I was still using Nervex lugs as late as 1981 when specified by customers. Looks to be a quality, well brazed frame, some builders were more competent than others.
Freddie Grubb, Maclean, Uppadine, Whitaker and Mapplebeck....... all possibilities but the list is long.
Needs stove enameling and lug lining, it's not beyond redemption. Some nice Chater Lea and Airlight parts would be period correct

Re:

Thank you for your reply to my post
Yes I agree it really is top quality frame build
Probably will look at finishing this properly
I have a nice pair of early Campag hubs built onto Monthlery pro N.O.S tubular sprint rims.

Re:

Hi, nice quality frame, at a guess circa 1952/3 ish ( curved brake bridge, early pro lugs ) can't add anything more, as suggested it is probably a local shop order done by a quality frame builder, stays look Claud Butler ish, but that's about it, I'm afraid, just some thoughts. Terry
