Back in the day I was in love with a Pacific with elevated chainstays, but they increased the price like 20% barely a month before high school was over and my parents were going to buy me a new bike as "promised". I also liked an OffRoad Proflex, promoted to be an affordable "full-suspension" (it had a Girvin Flextem and a crappy elastomer on a pivoting rear triangle).
Now I am happy I went for a vanilla option and just got a Trek Singletrack. Much easier to find replacements and a design that didn't get as obsolete as the other two... So now obviously I tend to prefer the "boring" choices if they promise easier repairability and spares availability.
