What model is my Carlton?

gabbycollett

Retro Newbie
A friend was going to throw this out a couple of years back and it's been sat in my garage ever since. I'm moving house now and don't really have room for it.

I have search the Internet high and low and I still have very little idea what this is or how much it's worth.

I'd love to have the time on my hands to restore it but I don't :(

Can anyone else shead some light onto what this is?

Thanks!

Welcome :). Well that's a real clash of decades, looks like someone has taken a Raleigh / Carlton and reworked it with under bb cable routing, braze on front mech, internal routing top tube and possibly new rear dropouts.

I think I can just see a W plus something then it ends in 4 under the bottom bracket where a Worksop number would be?

Re:

I seem to be agreeing with Mike.

My first impression was anything but Carlton. Nervex Pro lugs widely used 1955 to early 60s, but not bottom bracket here. Seat lug looks a bit of a doorstep considering how well they were shaped.
There could be a number on the forks, a 5 minute job if the stem is not stuck in (likely)

Raleigh / Carlton international, super course, Comte le montre (never could remember the name!) All had nervex pro lugs at some stage in the early 70's iirc. Maybe its my imagination about the W frame number :)

Have you tried to remove the stem? Unscrew the Allen bolt so it sticks out a cm above the stem and then hit it with a hammer. Resting a block of wood on top of the bolt as protection. That should free the wedge at the bottom of the stem and should come out.
