what lx chainset is this?

i love my XT chainset. but the one piece chain ring/spider does concern me a little as it will wear out one day! not sure why they made it like that..???!!
one other thing (and i think someone else mentioned this earlier) is that it creaks. constantly.
i've taken the cranks off, greased/copper greased all contact points, but still it likes to make a bit of a racket (mostly when i'm on the largest chain ring up front).

what the hell is its problem?? :?

Thanks, thought it had to be but wanted to eliminate one reason why it was so tight.

There is also a metal wire type safety spring around it, though they should pop off when being undone.

You can get the tool much cheaper than £25 (see my previous link to CRC Cyclo/X-Tools , though you don't get the securing bit. That just makes it a fraction easier.

I had already removed the wire-ring, just couldn't believe how tight the lock-ring is.

In the CRC link it shows just the XTR BB tool, will it definitely fit the STX RC lock-ring on crank?
