What length do you have ?

I've been thinking about this again myself recently. I should have long cranks cos I have very long legs, apparently owt around/upto 182.5 even :O but longest I ever had was 175, even my posh modern Saints I'm sure were 175 biggest. 170 bit too short though I reckon, tho better for spinning on roads and SS though?

180mm for me in the dirt, and 175mm for the road. I have long enough legs to use the longer arms, which climb better, but I like the shorter ones on the road, for higher RPM.

I have the following:

Track: 170mm
Road: 172.5 and 175mm
CX: 172.5 and 175mm
MTB: 175mm and 180mm

Horses for courses really. One day I'll ditch the 172.5mm as I like the slightly longer 175mm on road and CX and yes you can tell the difference, but they have their place when moving into the track season.

The 180s are good for big gears out of the saddle and general relaxed rides but are hard to spin fast for any length of time.

There is the argument that cranks that are too short turn your knees to mush.

The theory is they're meant to be sized to your leg length. Of course, in the compact frames in four sizes for everyone, off the peg world we live in that's not going to happen, unless you have £££££. But that is the theory.
