By whom, and for what end?
It costs me £90 a year, to the Architects Registration Board. It's a professional title like Doctor or Barrister, so that when you employ one you have a guarantee that the person you have employed is the real deal and not some person who can just sling a few plans together. There's a whole code of conduct and professional standards procedure. Clients can also report architects who fall short and get some redress. Also people claiming to be architects when they are not can be fined in criminal law.
Longun, I have on occasion seen plans where the architect has ignored brick dimensions, for some obscure reason/ignorance. Its staggering to think it happens, but then some architects like to think of themselves as artists and be unfettered by the realities of actually building anything.
So, what is it, seven years of full time college to qualify as an architect in buildings and structures and you have to pay ninety quid a year to stay in the club ? What's the condition of subsequent subscription, just pay up and that's it, or is it any kind of proof you have to provide that you are still capable ? Or is it just another private club that exists to make money for itself on the backs of professionals ?
