What really annoys me is that IT people are allowed to use the term Architect, when its supposed to be protected.
Protected?

By whom, and for what end?

It costs me £90 a year, to the Architects Registration Board. It's a professional title like Doctor or Barrister, so that when you employ one you have a guarantee that the person you have employed is the real deal and not some person who can just sling a few plans together. There's a whole code of conduct and professional standards procedure. Clients can also report architects who fall short and get some redress. Also people claiming to be architects when they are not can be fined in criminal law.

Longun, I have on occasion seen plans where the architect has ignored brick dimensions, for some obscure reason/ignorance. Its staggering to think it happens, but then some architects like to think of themselves as artists and be unfettered by the realities of actually building anything.

im also the following...trained in security/personal security.electrical engineering, all aspects of building.skilled pre 19th century upholsterer and furniture maker.i spent a fair few years at college.inbetween large bouts of being a layabout.when i did a building job for my old boss i sort of changed my approach and stopped being such a lazy git.ive worked non stop since then..i get bored and festless if i have nothing to do.i also make custom mods on rubiks cubes like the 5x5 hexagonal dipyramid i made a while ago.

Bike Shop owner/freelance translator

That's an interesting combination!
It must take different skills for your two roles.

Indeed. Could have lived off the translation work but would have gone mental sat in front of the computer 9-5.

Variety will keep me sharp and should ensure earnings when either one goes quiet....

I changed jobs today, still in the same company though. Got my own office with a nice view over the pond outside. Comes with air-con and a radio. Much better than the open plan office I was in before. Will miss the banter though. And another thing, half the hours I was doing before.
