What is this? MTB or Tourer!?

Re:

I think the Classic Model did come with calliper brkes and less gears maybe, especially the early ones and the base model. My halfords days whilst a fond memory was a long while ago.

I think you hit the nail on the head though, Transport.

For Me, Gravel doesn't conjure images of rack and mudguards for some reason, but its all semantics, we managed to pinpoint what it is

Re:

You lot are rubbish!

Here's a 'luxury' version of the Pioneer, 501DB tubeset

Hiya, please excuse the thread hijack...

Anyone remember Dawes Early 90s "Street" series, very much along the same lines as these Raleigh Pioneers etc?

Pretty much as described above "hybrid" the awkward lovechild of MTBs and Road bikes, more than a bit shit at both ends of the spectrum, but in the middle ground, Joe Average made good use of these hybrids as "transport".

Dawes had such obscure and cheesy models as;
Street Life, Mean Street, Back Streets, Street Style, Street Sharp, Easy Street etc,

But some models had Reynolds 531, 501 or 500 tubing, advertised with riders wearing, Jean's, hush puppies and ski jackets....niice:

So my question, which is the best Retrobike Forum section to start a resto thread on a genuine 1994 "Hybrid" ?

Thanks

Dave

If you don't get a definitive answer, I suggest posting it in the pre 97 Mountain Bike - Readers Bike Section since you intend to gravel bike build it. I'm in a similar situation where I don't know where to post a build thread. It's a Dave Yates Expedition frame, which is like a heavy duty hybrid designed for touring off the beaten track. There is a site suggestion thread somewhere, maybe suggest a new category be added for Hybrids and gravel bikes.

Lol hello Oaklec....

Thanks. But "a definitive answer......." 😆

Seems there is a modicum of interest building up on these OG Hybrids?

Dave

Oh dear......

Is that the definitive answer? Banishment to CUF!

No room for a "Show us your OG Hybrid" thread at retrobike?

Cmon look at the get up of the two mongs in the Dawes advert. Retro AF and no denying.

😉

Cheers

Dave

Why not start an appreciation thread?

You could put it anywhere and leave the mods to argue over where it should go ;)
