What is this abandoned bike?

I figured it for a miyata of some kind, and i wish i had taken more pics, but the street is busy... It's a 6hr round trip from my house, and I'm thinking of packing a hacksaw and picking it up on the weekend. Can anyone confirm? I've had a look at some catalogues and the rear dropouts seem different to the elevations that i see there. I like the little ridge on the side of the down tube where it meets the BB.

The Tioga carbon bar is cool, and it has been kitted out with newer XT stuff, but then left to rot.... the wheels have been kicked in and the chain is a rusted out.

I guess the other question is, does anyone have a problem with people liberating bikes that have been left to die in streets?

Not really if it's been there a while, which it looks as though it has.
Or, it could be a trap set up by the rozzers like they do with cars. Hidden cameras watching and as soon as someone tries to 'liberate' it, an elite squad of storm-troopers pounce

The chain looks like a beast to cut through. Maybe that's why it's still there. The owner lost his key

Cut the bike free, then hand it into the police (tell them you found it). If the owner is looking for it, they’ll get it back. If there is no owner looking for it, you’ll get it in 3 months with a clean conscience and have covered your arse if someone down the track claims you stole it.

This has been discussed before and the general consensus was theft is theft in whatever context. Leave the bike alone, its whoever left its concern and ultimately the council and laws business ;)

Giant! of course.

yep, handing it into the police (or letting them know that I want to do it before I do) was the idea.

Anyway, I doubt that I will get over there to follow through anytime soon, so if anyone here is from Sydney, its parked across the road from central (train) station.
