What is it with some sellers?

I really do wonder about some people... Looking at a couple of options at present, either longer travel forks (from 80 to 100mm!) for my current HT or perhaps a newer 100/120mm forked steel HT.

So, see a couple of possabilities on ebay, though one of the ads looked like it had been written by a 6 year old with no interest in cycling... a couple of dozen words at most, almost as many spelling mistakes, and no real idea of condition - pretty important on ebay I'd say (it looked OK in pic, but...).

Pinged the guy a mail asking for clarification on four fairly fundamental points, got a reply back - barely 10 words, only answering one of the four points, and even that was in a 'I can't be arsed to answer this' manner.

Other ad was much better, though I still pinged the guy on one point. Got a reply back very quickly, with even more info than I had requested... guess which one I'll be bidding on!

The first listing has just finished... with zero bids (same as the first time it was listed). Is it just me or are some people not very clever when it comes to trying to sell something???

I know exactly where you're coming from. Some the ads on ebay are terrible, I was following one the other day for a kona. All it said was 17inch bike, I'm not a cyclist so don't know much. :roll:

Surely that is how bargains are had? Their loss your gain.

True. I bought my 1995 Hahanna for £32 last year. Dark picture, bike had a flat, only 3 lines of description.

Okay I changed most of the parts but a fully described ad with bright, clear supersize pics got me £280 + P&P.

Look for the crappy ads, ask questions, read between the lines and bargains can be yours

yeah it just plain laziness
i nearly always avoid if i cant get enough info
even if it is bargain central! the vital stats are well, vital!

Yeah, I'd never bid on an auction with an ad like that. Wrongly or rightly it just gives me impression you're going to get messed about, or the item won't be right.

I wonder with some of the "I don't know much about bikes" ads whether that's because they've just missed the line that says "because I just steal them from the town centre".

All the bikes that get stolen are going somewhere and I wouldn't be surprized if a fair few find their way to Ebay.

I also think sellers act like to act dumb so you think you're snatching something valuable off an idiot while they get to say 'sorry, I didn't know anything about that', when you complain about something after the sale.

If a listing says 'I don't know what I'm selling', chances are the item's crap. Rather than say 'here's some junk', they put it up with a vague listing and let you decide what you're buying and then what to pay while they maintain deny-ability.

Apart from a VERY slight feeling of top-out when you go off something under full compression they're pretty excellent, incredibly smooth action, no stiction and extremely flex-free. They can also be adjusted in length so might suit your options
