What hi fi system you got ?

I'd encourage anyone to give diyaudio a try. Whilst that amp is top flight I didn't start there, I made many small dirt cheap devices that steadily got larger and larger :D I had no skill or knowledge to begin with now I can solder SMD with ease and understand a schematic :)

The best part is you ultimately realise the pursuit of quality and purity is at odds with what you actually want and like. Once you give up on that never ending race to bankruptcy it is just a case of picking the flavour you prefer and with diy that is easy and fun :D

yep, fortunately I've ended that journey ...maybe.
Have been looking out for a new DAC though, but the music-server/computer media thing scares me off, as I know nothing about that side of things..
I'd love to build, or (more realistically) have built for me a copy of the EAR Acute CD player/DAC, which seems to be one of the 'nicest' players available.

I keep looking at the Beta 22, but I'm not sure I listen to headphones enough to warrant the expense.

But, if we're playing amp top trumps:

Here's mine:

350w into 8ohms, 700 into 4.

This is just one of two. :D

More stuff I've cobbled together here: http://www.tdsf.co.uk/Audio/Hypex.shtml

At home I have:

pair of Technics 1210s, Ortofon Concorde carts
Vestax CDX-05 CD deck
Vestax VMC-004FX 4 channel digital effects mixer
Cambridge AUdio Ipod dock
Acoustic Energy AE2 sub/speakers

It sounds pretty good in my teensy flat, and I can play a variety of formats.

In storage (no room) I have this:

A pair of Mission bookshelf speakers and a ProJect Debut II deck, which I appreciate isn't 'Hi-Fi' per se (and is actually pretty naff), but I thought it was so cool that I spent an entire years Student loan installment on it.

I've got a rather unusual London Acoustical Developments turntable.

Rare as hens teeth it seems.

that Project record player probably knocks spots off CD players 5X the price

True, it was less than a quarter of the price of a 1210 new too, best £120 I have spent on music stuff.

ferrus i've made all kinds of contraptions over the years to isolate and improve sound with equipment.........sometimes all the effort does nothing at all other times it really really helps and is most rewarding...on occation it makes things worse to say over dampen a CD player.
