it's a 94. Nothing on it is standard, as it came complete with LX pretty much, and rigid triple butted forks. The forks on it are far to long for geometry and will make it handle like a dog. With the correct forks it is a very nice bike
Why 1994 and not 1995 that had a blue one and looks the same as the red (the other colour according to bikepedia) 1995 I linked to and has a serial that may indicate a 1995? I don't know Diamond back that well so interested to learn :)

Because I'm a numpty, didn't read all the posts, and got the year wrong

You are right, for all the reasons you've stated. I bought the blue version that this is, for flossy rockstar last year.

It's the same frame as the Axis

Re:

thanks for all the replies! dead thread then burst of life while I am out.

in my defense I've been either out (on my modern Revolution Triad 1 from Edinburgh bike coop) or doing dad duty or wrenching today.

the shimano dating guide seemed important - and perhaps front mech is only original part on the bike from original spec. Date stamp of TI puts the front mech at September 1995... so fits with what you all say.

and yes front forks are hideously long... I have a Genesis IO frame for them to go on if I can get them serviced properly.

f I don't build this up I think a result. Front wheel is Mavic rim, stainless spokes and Hope hub. Pedals DMR V8 to go on the Genesis frame. or somewhere. I already have a pair on the triad. My wife has a pair on her specialized. Great pedals if you can put up with the odd "snake bite" on the shins occasionally... and my god that hurts.

Managed to get the stuck seat post out today. I have a kids "fort" built from old pallets in the garden. Had just the right shape to wedge the seat in and twist the frame. that managed to unstick the seatpost. it also managed to unstick the stem on my wifes old Dawes Omega fastback but that is another post...

so only bottom bracket remains and then a bare frame.

then have to decide what to do with it!

Feels very light.

would it be sacrilege to build up as a "station" bike commuter? :) nobody is going to nick it after all. its not shiny aluminium and carbon is it. maybe some cheapy 80mm forks on it. or fixed.

would not be hard to make this better than the bike shape object from hellfrauds I have now (£35 new off ebay is my excuse. I don't care if it gets nicked.)

and I will get some better pictures in the week!

first pic is from the ebay ad.

others are from me cleaning in the garden.

no, it was never super high spec, so station bike commuter is acceptable use for it

what does super high spec mean on this forum? :)

these were $750 in 94/95. that's seems a shed load of cash back then.

but yes station bike.

might be able to recycle the bits off the current BSO to fit on here. wheels , front and rear brake seemed ok. just need to sort fork first.

Re:

September 1995 for a date stamp would make (in Shimano and most bike land) a 1996 model year.

Hahaha I honestly thought I was wrong on the year and wanted to know why :)

I don't think they made a 1996 blue frame, serial code could give a 1996 model, probably same frame as I think the routing looks the same ?

It didn't come with any XT mechs, so the date of it matters not to the date of the bike. It is September 95, so could well have been an early upgrade by original owner
