What happened to the RST steerer tubes?

For awhile there you could find those RST steerer tubes all over the place, ebay and amazon as well as bike shops. Near perfect match for older Marzocchi tubes, I have a threadless one on a fork.

They seem to have evaporated recently, not even any on ebay as far as I can tell. You still see the steerer-less RST forks for sale sometimes.

Did something odd happen with RST or just just stopped making them?

Re:

Here is a bodge so dont go getting all thats dangerous and stupid on me because it is a bodge but it does work. Get some 28.6mm aluminium alloy tube with a wall thickness giving an inside diameter that equates to the inside diameter of a 1" steerer. The alloy tubing is 3.2mm thick walled which is 16swg I think. This is nice and thick and strong. Then get a 27.2 - 28.6mm seatpost shim, one of the metal ones not plastic. Force this over the end of the 28.6 post, the slot cut in the shim will just become wider. Result 28.6mm steerer with 30mm diameter crown seat as the amount of increase is 1.4mm as the shim wall is 0.7mm thick perfect for fitting to a set of Marzocchi's.

This bodge has not failed for me and 28.6mm alloy steerers are made with 3.2mm thick walls but I understand bodging worries some so use at own risk. ;)

In my case it's not the elusive 1" stuff I'm looking for, actually have some 1" steerers and the required shims. RST made the shims at one point, those are also identical to the proper Marzocchi part.

Only have the one extra 1-1/8" threadless tube though. Well sort of, have a bunch that are cut really short.

My above bodge refers to 1-1/8" steerers, I keep forgetting metric, although normal from my science background, is replaced by imperial in most things mtb ;-)

From what I see you can still buy them.

I'd be happy if I get rid of some of my steerers from my >500 steerer collection (argh), especialy 1 1/8" steerer up to 200mm but also others.
I also have lot's of 1 1/4 steerer and shorter 1" ones - thredened ot non threadened.
Just drop me a note, ask with your details and suggest a price yourself. Shippping worldwide possible.

The bodge from above inspired me to try a 1" piece of 6061 T6 1/8" wall thickness (~3.175mm). I found a 25.4mm to 30mm shim on ebay that fits my Bombers with the pinch bolts. But there is also a 26.4mm relief for the lower bearing race to go on. I found the 25.4 to 26.4mm shims on eBay too. I'm using McMaster Carr #
Those star nuts use a 1/4-20 bolt not an M6 though.

Seems really sweet. I hope I don't die because of that 0.025mm.
