Brand new to this group. I’ve had this bike a while- I can’t remember the year, but it has been stored for a good 16 years. I just got it out and the bike mechanic said it’s a retro classic. It’s made me a bit worried about using it.

I would just ride it. It’s a good bike but, being honest, it’s not particularly rare or valuable, in the grand scheme of things.

Even the Kleins, Fat Chances, Merlins around these parts are all generally ridden to one extent or another.

Ride it and enjoy it.

"Retro/Classic" is a category of bikes that is defined by bike shop employees as "anything over 2 years old". Ride that Trek as hard as you can

Looks new to me ....I've dragged far far worse out of my shed and ridden! Although not Uber desirable you can't go wrong with a trek of that age really...basic preflight checks and off you go
