What do you hate seeing on a gorgeous retro bike?

Loving this thread (even though I'm quite badly incriminated  ). Does 'cheap' count as a theme...?

The only thing a really hate seeing on my gorgeous Marin Eldridge Grade is a bike part which is on there since 1991 suddenly got a crack.

There is nothing to really hate about other peeps bikes. For me it is the other way around. When i see someones bike and there is a detail i really like i think about doing it the same way. If i see a bike with one barend facing to the front and one facing to the rear that is just no inspiration for my own builds. But no hate at all.

So how about stopping this hate list and let all the retrobike fellows know what you really love seeing on a gorgeous retro bike? Over here:

high end old school frames that people decide they want to build as single speed is awful. please just buy a specific frame with horizontal drop outs and leave the nice old frame to someone else who will build it properly!

What was so awful about this poor old thing? :(

Retrobiking is a thoroughly subjective manifestation of our distorted egos. Want something functional? Buy a modern sled. Lighter, better braking, better suspensions.

The point of my discussion was to know the factors that turn you off a bike. Turning off has more to do with little personal fetish than with the real worthiness of a bike. I don't like Uma Thurman. I understand I'm completely wrong but she's got a series of characteristics that turn me off: a long face, eyes with a shape I find queer, and, not last, ugly feet. Now this is morbid, ok, but I'm not stating she's ugly, or that there's anything wrong with her. It's just my twisted taste which makes her beauty "not my cup of tea"

So, that SS KONA: Apart from the fact that I'ma Kona hater. The thing has 1 speed, so I wouldn't be seen dead on one. Nice bike for some, one I wouldn't even waste my sight on for me.

A nice, enjoyable bike? Probably yes. A bike I find hideous? Yes, for sure.

And hey, my IF would be considered very offensive by many: mixed period parts, risers on negative rise stem, new paintjob. Problems? No, I put it up that way because it had the position which worked best for me, so, fine with it, but other people might well find it grim.
