Halfiords method for removing a CK headset[my own experience]
Step 1-Find a small screwdriver
step 2-Hammer it in
Result- Headset removed but now damaged

They really did that? I hope they paid you for it?

I've met some very, very good mechanics in Halfords, or at least people who would be given a bit of direction. But the truth is, they make so little money the only people that could afford to work for them would have to be living with their parents. Halfords don't employ people full-time anymore.

Your gonna get good ones and bad ones, same with kwick fit a few are crap and the whole brand name gets slated then even tho there are some good uns aswell. Ask a few bike related questions and you can soon judge which you have.

I've never had a problem with them. I bought a Boardman from there using the cycle to work scheme. I'm fairly competent when it comes to putting bikes together (and tightening a few bolts/putting a front wheel in isnt exactly rocket science) so I just told them not to build it, but to leave it in the box for me to collect, which they did.

I should mention that the guy I spoke to was extremely helpful. I wanted the 2009 Limited Edition hardtail. There was only one 16 inch left in stock in the UK, and it was in a store over the other side of the country. The guy I spoke to ordered it from the other store, and had it delivered to my local store the next day.

I have heard lots of things about Halfords putting bikes together incorrectly, but I would have decided to build my Boardman myself anyway, as I like to know that it's all been done properly, regardless of where it's been bought from.

As others have mentioned, Halfords isn't a bike specialist, it's a shop which sells bikes amongst other things. I wrongly or rightly don't expect the staff to take as much care or pay as much attention to detail as a proper bike shop, and because of this I've never had a problem with them. I wouldn't hesitate in buying a bike from them again.

No, I don't work for Halfords. ;)

my local halfords is scunthorpe. i use them a fair bit as they are open into the evening (i work 9-5. the bike shop in my town are very low end)

as others have said, the bikehut staff are pretty good, the general halfords staff are less so.

if you know what you need/want then it isnt an issue. its not like o go in there for advice if i need a set of cables or a chain

Unfortunately i didnt notice till a few weeks later. No chance theyd accept it after id left the store
I'll depress you further[+ myself] on the state of the bombers they were supposed to be sending off.
Im guessing they didnt send it till i kicked up hell, and i think a staff member attempted the work himself
He forgot to add the circlip under the rebound screw and impacted the two together
One z2 cartridge knackered

It had a good reputation once:
