I don't do much fell or 'trail' running. Should do really... great for leg strength.
Fell-Running certainly will help to improve your leg strength & your ability to suffer
I've only done one half-marathon, the '2009 Cross-Bay Challenge'
http://www.crossbayrun.org.uk/index.htm
Which goes from Flookburgh (Cumbria) over the sands of Morecambe Bay to Hest Bank (between Morecambe & Carnforth, Lancashire)
There's nowhere to shelter from the rain, the sun, etc...
And it's not as flat as you'd think it is - plus........ 3 river crossings where the rivers enter the Bay............... one being 300 yards wide & crotch-deep :shock: (so it was like walking in a long swimming pool)
There was a 25MPH head-wind from the 8 mile mark :twisted:
I finished 52nd/239 @ 1.42:52
This is my next big challenge;
Holmfirth Harriers 'HolmeMoss Fell-Race' (17 miles/4000 feet of climbing - that's almost 3/4mile going up!!) :shock: :shock:
http://www.holmfirthharriers.com/events/HolmeMoss.html
It's a round of the '2010 English Fell-Running Championship', with a possible turn-out of 400, I'll be elated if I can get into the top-150
