What colour should I paint this Overburys Pioneer Estay?

ACF-50 is a really effective rust preventative. You spray it on and after leaving it for an hour or so thoroughly wipe off the excess. It’s very messy stuff and leaves an oily finish but this does go after a while. To maintain the protection, just rub a little into the frame occasionally if any surface rust begins to appear.

I have to admit that this is not an established technique and won’t be to everyone’s taste! I tried it on a steel stem a few years ago and it worked quite well. The steel mellows with a satisfying patina - like an old spade…

Personally I love a raw finish but don’t much like clear-coat as moisture often seems to get underneath. That patchy rusting/worming that follows looks crap and is difficult to repair as the lacquer has to be stripped back.
At least an ACF-50 treated frame would be easier to maintain (if you don’t mind the messy process) and it’d be a cinch to remove if it didn’t work out

So.... Are you thinking of getting it painted or powder coated, doyou want a plain colour , fade or try to put your own touch on the classic joker stripes?

also..... what groupset? if you are going Campagnolo olympus, I would be going as in the advert, instant classic rebuild based on so many of our memories.

Not keen on the naked finish with the repairs/tabs on show. Paint can hide an a lot from the eye, and the frame is too nice not too.

In fact I would send this to the likes of Argos and have them Faux fillet the tabs and then go a bit mad with the paint, its certainly worth going the extra mile for.

Ok thanks for the info, I'll consider this, although Im not 100% on the raw idea.

So I have some Suntour XC brakes (roller cam rear) and a mix of XT and LX that I have hanging around waiting for something like this. Paint Job will be meeting of classic fades and riddler stripes, there's going to be a lot of masking tape happening but I'll keep the stripes minimal and a bit classy. A period correct functional ride with a nod in the direction of the black and green beastie. Basically the frame fell on my lap and so did the forks and parts, so I'm going with the flow to see where it goes.
