What cable ferrules for "vintage" cable stops?

My 1951 Holdsworth has non-slotted stops which are quite shallow so a conventional ferrule just waggles about. The hole on the other side isn't much bigger than the inner wire itself.

What ferrules should I use? Bare cable outer isn't secure either, and will probably split before long without a ferrule in place.

You can drill out the stop for a stepped ferrule, use a cable clip to stabilise or a thin cable tie to keep it from waggling about. It let it wave about for the original look :)

You don't need to use a ferrule and most people don't. With the brake set up, the tension in the cable stops the cable waggling about.
