What bikes did you want but could never afford?

I always dreamed of owning a Mongoose Pro Class, Diamond Back Turbo, or a candy red Hutch.

Moving on to MTBs, I wanted a Cannondale Super V or Delta-V - they looked so futuristic at the time.

After that phase, I realized that I don't much like suspension bikes. So I stuck with hardtails- They're cheaper, less ugly, and they don't get replaced every year by "better" designs.

These days, my "wish list" has (almost) stopped growing, because I have very little interest in modern bikes and never read the bike magazines to see the Emperor's new clothes.

Matt black Orange Prestige.

Pace RC200.

I have since had a Pace and one reason for selling was that it was too 'full on' for me, unless you are going at 10 tenths I felt that I was letting the bike down.
I actually now prefer what I ended up with BITD, a Dyna Tech MT4.

Standouts from my fuddled memory are in no particular order, the MC San Andreas for the sheer "wow", Kestrel Carbon for the awesome frame, Canno' Raven because it looked awesome wells... other than that I can't remember the amount of bikes I lusted after, there was always something and no matter how fab your bike was at the time all it took was for some rich twat to cycle past you on the latest Klein or Merlin to break your heart haha

My list from when I first started went like this

Orange Prestige circa 92 I think, I remember buying my first issue of MBUK and it was in a grouptest against a Kona and a Raleigh Activator 2, crazy test! This was when I first really got in to Mtbing. Then I discovered the clockwork, oh how I wished. I always remember the old guy in the Orange ads in MBUK with riding an Orange, kind of a thin Santa??

I have a copy of that group test. If you want I could try and photocopy it. ;)

When I got my Tufftrax I really wanted a 1990 Team Marin (pink forks  ). Still looking for one.
By 1993 I had my Clockwork but really wanted a Vitamin T. Got one now :D

Also really wanted an original GT RTS and original Manitou full suss.

Yeti ARC, Fat Chance Yo were the exotica I always lusted after.

More realistic was an Orange Elite which later turned into an E2. Eventually got an E2 from BikeTreks in Ambleside and thought life was complete..

Check my Prestige thread in my sig for pics of the 92 MBUK test. I used it to date my build.
