What bike part always fascinates you ?

As I sit here drinking White cider stuck with soccer on the tv because I can't find the remote to switch to something more interesting and cleaning bike parts in carb cleaner I got to wondering just what is others favourite bike part, the part that always fascinates no matter how mundane it is.

I thought this whilst cleaning that engineer's nightmare, the rear derailer, as derailers are my fascinating part, in this case an old stx rear mech which despite it's steel content, I feel it is on a par with my old m732 XT mech.

What's your always fascinating cycle part ?

Cantilever brakes are my bag love em

particularly like the M650 ones no idea why but i like em, treat them badly, don't lube them, come rain or snow, beach or fire track. but rinse them in water polish them up and they look new not many other bike parts can boast that

Suspension. The workings of them fascinate me. I find myself in the lbs bouncing bikes about for no good reason when I go there!!

I'm in the rear derailleur camp...

A poor solution that has been refined to something really quite acceptable! A bit like the Porsche 911!
