Amusing read of this thread...
I don't do resolutions, I have a missus, an old house, and a job, I do not subscribe to the illusion I have much control over my time..?!
I currently I have four complete bikes with fairly identified use.. three bare frames awaiting paint ( by me ) three bikes I bought for donor or parts etc but have yet to do so.. and one of them is so weird I am still tempted for a build on it rather than strip and rid myself of the frame!
Impulsive yes, not helped by visiting here regularly and kidding myself I make enough time and ride enough to justify more than one bike in the eyes of any rational outlook.
However I will say I have plans, I have nearly all the decals and most of the paint for the frames, and I think almost all the parts... for those builds.
I have decided to commit one evening a week to bike building etc for the next two months, (warm, lit and heated workshop at my work can be used.. ) I did this last winter and completed two nice rebuilds ..
I built a bikepack bike, last winter nothing crazy but for exploring my county with overnight stops which is a fancy of mine for over twenty years, its been ridden mostly doing shopping runs etc and getting used to pannier weight etc and shake down.
That bike I am happy to trust for adventures, so lets just start with exploring the ridgeway sometime this year as a resolve... see how I get on?
I need an audit, I do the same thing with my cars which are another whole ballgame of unfinished, but I gather spares so I don't have to buy in desperation... however I probably have more than enough spares to future proof my fleet , particularly with current low levels of riding for the rest of my life, so lets just say no more until ive audited...!
When I am done building and riding those couple of bikes I will have chosen what forks to use out of the five pairs or more here for two builds.. finding nice pace forks you forgot about is just daft.
RIDE...
Thats the main thing, ride more, ill health, house, whatever I didnt used to let it stop me so much, so make time to ride is a big thing.
My other half is half marathon training so I am negotiating I can ride for at least as many hours each week as she runs , which frankly will improve my fitness considerably! Its a two way thing to push each other. More daylight will help.
All have the same issues don't we really, everything I am reading feeds into one thing that puzzles me with the whole forum much of the time..
Its all about parts and building much of the time, local groups ref riding etc dont seem to be a thing.. maybe if anyone's read this far thats something we could all do with more focus on? Actually riding bikes, and building rideable bikes, not shiny trophies..?
I have patina riders and shiny less ridden steeds but increasingly I think I need to just ride more.. I certainly have sufficient bikes around.
