What are your retro bike plans for 2024.

Going to get my bontrager back to period spec, build up a nice larger 26" bike for commuting with a restomod drivetrain and maybe try to find a 1989 / 1990 stumpjumper that can be a keeper.

The kona I bought recently is very nice, but I can't see it staying long term - its a bit too small to ride and it will just gather dust

Decided to have another round of clear out. Ie go through it all again and find some more I can live without..... shouldn't be that hard

3 and a half months in. I got my Race Lite, which is nice.
Only bought one other frame but did sell another so that balances out!

1. Rebuild as many average retro bikes as I can.
2. Grow YouTube channel while doing it.
3. Keep it enjoyable.

Organise what I need & what I have into separate sections.
That & build a bike for myself rather than constantly rebuilding strays!

I've built four 26ers over the last few years. I've only ridden 26ers since my parents bought me a Raleigh Ozark in 1988. I keep getting tempted to buy new gravel bike, saw a lovely one in a Ribble shop in Bristol today, but I do like to sit in my shed tinkering with retro mountain bikes. Problem is, as soon as I finish building a bike I'm searching eBay, gumtree and Facebook again for bargains which I can rebuild, it's like an addiction.
I had GT Tequesta in the 90s which I loved, so I'd love to find an old one and rebuild it.

For me I've got a few aims.

1. Finish my 92 team marin, the daily driver I've always wanted...see marin build thread.

2. Do a bit more toothbrush touring....you know slum it in 4 star hotels and 1 star Michelin restaurants.

3. Build version 2 of the "bike i should be riding". This is essentially my touring bike, ive learned a lot from the 1st, and now have a donor for the improved version 2.

4. Sell my 2 saracens (conquest and citybike)....and the last of my frames and kit.....I'm aiming for 2 retro bikes an 3 others (2 kinda retro by accident anyway) by the end of the year. The sell off has gone pretty well over the last 5 years!

5. Find a roberts white spider in my size!

Have you seen the Roberts on eBay? It’s owned by Geoff Roberts (the brother of Chaz who was the actual frame builder)?

Nothing wrong with a hobby. It took me too long to realise I enjoy tinkering and building them as much as riding them.
