What are people's thoughts on 'retro modding' a steel frame?

Heres one I made earlier

Here's my wife's '97 Hardrock AX (granted, not a skinny tube steel frame), all dressed up as I found it last night, just back from a ride.

These days, as I said in a post above, it wears Deore derailleurs, NOS STX shifters, stupid-light Clarks levers, Avid BB5 in front, XT'V's (modern) in back. The stem's a Kore. All in all, it's been a wonderful bike, keeping up with its owner's growing skills.

My wife lost nearly 100# riding this, along with some Zumba and Crossfit... :)

my current project is the opposite, modern steel frame with retro parts. its a very nice frame though, and they just dont make some stuff like they used to. these days silly phrases like "its made from cro-mo so not for the weight concious" are all too common in parts catalogues :(
