What about a retro mtb magazine??

I think the only way you could expect this not to fail would be to go down the route of the ride journal.

NO I AM NOT JOKEING GO SEE!!!

Why would that be a joke? The Boardman bikes are sensibly equipped, thoughtfully designed, good value. That sounds like a good set of reasons to reccomend a bike. Or would spending £200 more for a cooler brand name somehow transform the ride?

They would be fine, if halfords didnt sell them, i have worked in a bike shop, im not going to write a esay on why they suck, but all im going to say is we had a bike that they had built in, it took me half a day to basicly take it apart and then put it back together, i felt really sorry for him, he spent a lot of money on it and just wanted the gears and brakes, forks to work... i felt so sorry for him i gave him a free head set!.. i dont like them because they put people of mountain biking and rip people of. Not such a barging if you ask me...

Let's approach this from a business perspective...

There's a BIG target demographic.

They're £loaded£ and often impulsive with their cash.

How can we make money out of it?

What retailers/wholesalers do we target?

Size/frequency/cost of publication/production cost/circulation.

Halfords are rubbish we all know that however I don't think Boardman bikes are bad really if it was Carrera then that is a different story

Personally i'd love it... while the internet is great, actually have a mag in your hand to read/take anywhere is wonderfull...

things i'd liek to see (if it ever happened):

maybe 1/4ly or bi annual

reviews of old bikes .,.. er of course...

shoot outs

comapring to new bikes...

interviews with old racers/makers ...

now i know its a long shot, but in the world of waky mags...

solecolletor
sneakerfreaker

2 mags that came from zero with no advertising and are still going strong after like 6 years... admittedly the industry changes a lot since the start of these mags...

also it wouldnt ahve to be (although i'd prefer) MTB, could be road and BMX too... that'll give you a much broader base to sell to...

just dont do what "total audi" did...

I had a magazine. A magazine is a tough way to try to make money, especially since computers have made publishing so easy that there are already too many small magazines. Computers and the Internet can now collect the wisdom and make it available all the time without having to move physical paper around. It's a brutal and relentless pastime, hobby, business, or whatever you want to call your time vacuum.

Every time you get one out, you have to start thinking about the next one. You never get to relax. People can't write simple English, if the submissions I saw were any indication.

Advertisers are tough to convince. Here's what they want to know. What would a print version have that the archives on this site do not? How many of us are there, what sort of demographic do we represent, how much money do we spend and what do we spend it on?

I see the Internet as a permanent library of magazine articles on any subject of interest to more than one person. It's hard to think of a related subject not already covered online. What sort of articles and photos would such a magazine publish? How would it establish all important and limited display space on public sale? There are thousands of publications competing for the shelf space that displays a few dozen.

The Devil's in the details.
