As far as I remember, ebay sellers can pay extra in final fees to have their item ‘promoted’ (item comes up in results for a broader variety of search entries etc.). I guess that also only encourages the practice of inflating the prices, as you only have to pay for it if/when the item sells.

Yeah that makes sense. It’s not just appearing through broader-than-specified search terms though - it’s cheating the results as they’re actually lying!* (at least regarding ‘recently listed’).

*pedantic Asperger’s sensibilities affronted.
