I've been trawling about eBay a bit looking for some stuff and the word retro is now a byword for expensive.

Stuff that people used to punt for a few quid is now demanding silly prices, as shown by the Marin in the eBay madness thread.

This is now the place to go for realistic prices. :(

We'll have to do something about that.

I propose we raise the prices in the "for sale" sections. Adding a "0" to every one should suffice.

In all seriousness, "retro" is rapidly becoming the new cool thing. As a result, prices are destined to go up even more.

Everyone wants in!

JESUS!! I've got one the exact same condition wise that I got from here for £20. And the matching front mech in perfect unscratched condition for £15.

it's been like that for a few years now..anything with the bywords vintage, classic, retro or 'kult' which is german? I just expect it to reach the correct price or more, so it doesn't get much of a look in and what is it with germany and breezers, they go crazy for that stuff over there!

I think that seller has a load of XT stuff on at the moment, none of it that rare or interesting, will soon learn as it wont sell and like the seller with NOS Courier Comp will have to drastically reduce prices.

In fairness that IS an amazing rear mech, solid performer that will last years, but that price is just a joke, and this twat was always very expensive, right from the off.

retro word

i have seen this 'term' hundreds of times myself on the market place and, agree with you guys that 'retro' is a widely used term for selling stuff that is seen as "sooo last year"

BUT! i've often seen folk using the term "retro" within the description for something that is barely 6 or 7 years old. or simply because a new model of bike is on sale currently...theirs is retro.

atleast we set guidelines for retro regard. ---->'97. some people just let it roll off their tongue without any research

Think we should rename the site to old crappy bikes.co.uk, see how well there sales go when the start list stuff as old and crappy. Well at least 90% of the ads would be honest then

Re: retro word

Ive noticed that a lot of people are now using the tagwords as listed above and the prices do seem to be going one way which is annoying when you know full well that the item on sale isnt actually worth three times what it used to retail for when it was new originally

Forgive my stupidity on this one though please as ive not been on here very long, but why is the 'retro' cut-off point 1997, out of interest, to my mind i wouldve said it would be more like 1999, as thats when i remember eveyone starting to produce ally frames and leaving the old school steel beasties behind, but obviously there was more to it than just frame materials, and im now digressing (lol)

But if you wouldnt mind my asking, why is this?
