Thermite!

Can send him some if he wants, not sure how it'll help though other than just weld everything together.

It looks cool, and it wont make it couldn't make it much worse :p

What the... who the... friggin hell that's mess!
I'd go with the welding a bar to it option as others have suggested.

I think if a get a small block of metal welded to both sides I could get a spanner and some long leverage onto the cups. If I welded a big bar to it I might not get the bar past the chainstays - a problem I had with the spanner I was using.

Yes, I would mig weld a flat bar some half a meter long across the bottom bracket with a mig or arc welder. The heat should help break the bond. Don't let it get so hot that it detempers the alum though.

Then when cool, you can grab that bar an use a breaker bar.

Good Luck.

I can help with the welding if you don't have any gear.
I also have access to pillar drills if you want to have go at drilling it out.

I don't want to damage the paint at all, it's original and in good nick.

Just cut the end of the bar at an angle so it clears the stay.

I agree!

The point is some heat, but not too much will break the bond. Then wrench it free.

Please read the above - I don't want to damage the paint at all so being very careful is the key.

Open ended spanners are the bastard child of a BSO's afterbirth. You could break your neck, crush a bollock or worse if you slip. Damaging the paint is the least of your problems.
