Weinmann Type 500 Side Pull Brakes?

This is the tool iirc

Now had mental block on using it!

Re:

Thanks for your help guys!

I've decided to leave well alone and not dismantle the calipers.I've been able to clean them well enough without doing so and they function fine now.

A box spanner may work, but very little of the bolt stands proud of the plastic adjuster.

Re:

The black plastic cover just slips off. It may feel a bit stiff, but if so, get a thin-bladed knife behind it, and ease it off.

The hex end that it covers is only for adjusting the brakes once fitted, so you don't need a tool for that (although once the plastic cover is off, all you need is a small socket spanner head -- can't remember the size off the top of my head, but about 6mm, I think. You don't need the special tool.)

Once you have the black cover off, you will see the two nuts holding everything together. 12mm, I think. It is exactly the same as the older models that didn't have the plastic cover, and the same as any other side-pull of the era.

As said all the hex is for is centralizing the caliper in relation to the wheel, once you pry off the black plastic gizmo it is more or less a standard side pull brake but with 2 half nuts instead of the dome lock nut stripping & assembly is the same as earlier Weinmann SP brakes.

Re:

Thanks for the info on removing the black plastic covers mine came off with the use of a thin bladed knife as suggested!
