I'm slowly rebuilding my 70/80s Claud Butler with weinmann 610/750 centre pull brakes and alloy rims. What is the best option regarding brake blocks. Should I go for nos or modern options? Any recommendations? As a rule I prefer function over looks.
NOS blocks may well be dried out and rock-hard. I swopped my original fit Shimano 600 blocks for some modern replacements and now I can actually stop rather just slow down.
Kool Stop do some Weinmann fit blocks that should fit into the original holders.
Koolstop are good, but those Weinmann copies are expensive.
I use 70mm Hybrid brake shoes on a few on my retro machines, these come with two inserts salmon or black, they work very well in the wet. Used these at Eroica this year and Im glad I did on some of those descents.
