I need a web-site designer...and maybe someone who can do the business cards as well. Nothing fancy...no live stocks...maybe 5 pages including wine-list etc. We want to own it and have access to altering it etc
Plenty of people out there.....any recommendations?
Budget is tight too of course

I don't know your level of skill in design, but nowadays it is very simple to put together a website. (I hesitate to say foolproof, someone always takes that as a challenge!)

There is a plethora of WYSIWYG website design software available, many free and fully featured.

Just a thought.

If it were me, and my mum concurs, having spent her life in the hotel business, I would have it in the form of a wine menu.

Don't know about website design but forum member Son_of_CAS does print such as business cards as part of his sign writing business. They have an in house designer so may be of help!

If this is a business website, I would advise hiring a professional. It may seem an extravagant out cost but if you get it right, you will see a strong return on that investment.

I would take this opportunity to review your branding and make sure what you produce (website, business cards) gives your customers the right impression. You can improve the quality of your customers by attracting the ones who are most profitable, and can increase the value of your company.

both a business card and a website say alot more about you than what's written on them.

In answer to your question, I know a few designers that could help. Do you want someone local?

One other bit of advice.

Lots of people call themselves professional this and that, but are not quite as stated.

The areas of web design and developing are inundated with these 'cowboys'.

If you want someone local look at local sites, see what you like and approach their designers, if local.

Try to have a full formed idea first, even if just scrawled on A4.

Try to keep the hosting separate from the designer, don't let them organise it all and try to charge you accordingly. You want a one off deal for doing the site, not being tied in long term.

Initially you will have little traffic, you should not need to pay much or even may be able to use your allocation with your ISP.

If you start to sell off the site or get heavy traffic you may need a more dedicated service in future, but initially you just want to get something up there.

Decent hosting with a ridiculous amount of space (more than most websites would need) is readily available for under $10 a month.. .

Some hosting comes with its own design software too...
