So I took my old magura hs33 apart yesterday, to get it ready for painting, and was wondering what's the best thing to use to wash off all the old oil? Hot soap and water? Alcohol? I obviously need to get at least the outside of each part completely clean before painting.

What's the best thing to use?

Thanks!

Re:

Lighter fuel (the liquid kind).....evaporates within seconds, leaves no residue and won't attack paintwork, varnish or seals

The lighter fuel sounds like an idea... Would ordinary alcohol work the saw? Wipes would be tricky, as there are lots of small gaps, corners, etc.

Re:

May do up to a point...never tried....as lighter fuel is petrol based it is ideal for removing oil or oil based stains...on a Q Tip it should get into all the nooks and crannies
