Thanks for your reply, Old School. Won't be getting the bike out 'til this weekend, so will have a teeth count. Supposing it's either 13 or 14 if I remember right.
Shouldn't be a problem getting it off. Came off last year after being on for best part of 30 years for a new Uniglide hub. I was in my local bike shop (Terrys, Yate, Nr. Bristol) and mentioned that I was getting my old bike back on the road after sitting in the back of the shed for almost 20 years. Miraculously the mechanic went out the back, returned, then asked if this is what I need - holding a brand new, old-stock, UG hub - mine for £30.
I'm slightly confused though as to exactly which Uniglide I have. You discount Dura Ace, but I there still seem to be several variants with names and terms like 600 EX, 600 XT, UG Ultegra, even Arabesque comes in somewhere.
My bike is late 80s approx, 6 sprockets on the rear UG hub, with the sprockets that have some (don't think it's all of them) teeth that are machined to appear slightly twisted on the tips. This is to aid the chain moving between sprockets. The derailleur just says 'Shimano Deore' on it. The shifters are Deore SIS.
So, which model of Uniglide do I have and what should I be looking to buy?
