As per the title, I am looking for a Shimano 3x9 front mech for a steep seat tube angle of 73.5 degrees. It needs to be a band on with top pull / dual pull cabling. I am struggling to even find a 73.5.

It is for a steel 2000's Voodoo Wanga frame, pictured below. Trying to convert it from a single speed to a 3x9 so i can get up some hills with it.

Sounds a stupid question, but you are measuring your angle from the chainstay to the seatube? Derailleurs (as im sure you know) are stamped with this measurement....not the frame angle.

73.5 is pretty standard angle and your chainstay to seat tube will be far less.

Frame looks like apretty standard hardtail geometry - it will probably take a standard mtb 3x9 derailleur - have you tried?

I'm only ever trying to read the angles on those derailleurs when faced with a full sus - and tbh they are all oneby nowdays

my lbs has ordered an slx 3x9 to try. it's possible the one i ordered was just not compatible or had odd measurements. hopefully the new one will work otherwise i'll be back with more questions and i'll get a protractor out and measure some angles. most answers i've got have said it's just a standard geo bike and a standard front mech should work. i think i just got unlucky with the mech i ordered.

thanks for all the replies everyone.

Iirc slx was introduced at 10speed, new ones are 12?

Highest quality currently from shimano would be alivio for 9 speed shift. it works great.

10 speed front derailleurs had a different cable pull per gear, so won't work well with 3x9 shifters

Alternately you could use older kit, when deore, lx and xt was 9 - but their current releases are no good for this.
