WANTED: Peugeot road bicycle or similar

Hello, first post.

I'm desperate for a nice bike for the summer, but I'm a complete newbie so please be nice!

I love the look of the 80's Peugeots, but from what I understand they're a bit of a mixed bag? Idealy looking for something quite lightweight (read that carbolite wasn't?). Not especially fussed whether it's fixed or geared, and am 5'8 girl (although not wanting a woman's frame). I'm not adverse to having a go at a few basic repairs/modifications, but want to have it ridable asap so nothing too major. It'll be used for short journeys around the city.

Love the Peugeots, but am open to other suggestions.

Am located in Birmingham, but will collect probably as far as london/manchester - or consider anything roughly in that radius.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

If it's Peugeots in general that you like (rather than just the 80s ones), there's a nice one going on the LFGSS forum: http://www.lfgss.com/thread63228.html

I have one very similar to this and it's my favourite bike - pretty light, lots of fun. I'm nearly tempted to buy this as a back-up one, especially as it has clinchers so it's more practical as a commuter bike. I was also originally after an 80s Peugeot but really glad I ended up with an earlier one.

There's also a few for sale here: http://www.retrospectivecycles.com/ , although I don't know if anyone has experience of them as a retailer.

And yes, you're right, carbolite frames aren't very light..!

Good luck!

Hey,

Thanks for getting back to me - yeah, a slightly older one would be fine. The one in the link you sent me would be excellent (although perhaps very slightly more than I *should* be spending), looks beautiful. I've messaged the guy but it looks like it's already sold. Have signed up on that forum too now though so will keep an eye out on there. Nice to hear that they're good bikes as well as just pretty to look at. Thankyou!

For anyone else, I think I meant single speed rather than fixed.

:D

Its Peugeots Carbolite 103.
Not a heavy frame, Especially whence liberated from its 12 Vittese set up!!
Also has internal brazing which looks splendid when the frame is stripped naked and clearcoated!! Which is what I shall do with it if it does not sell!!

I have two absolutely stunning frames in a 54cm (which I think is about your size) but they're not going to cheap as chips. What's your budget?

dubmaster - I think I'm gonna try hold for 531 or something similar and that isn't too much need of a respray etc, but thankyou very much for yr offer and will checkout the Brum forum on lfgss.

Tel - for the frame only I can't really afford much more than £100 - please pm me if you've got anything that fits that.
