Waist Belt Mounted Utility Pack A.K.A. BumBag / FannyPack

I've heard a lot of good stuff about Wingnut packs, they're a compromise between a backpack and a *ahem* lower-back pack, but they're not cheap.

(as an aside, yes we call them Bum Bags in the UK and I understand that in the States they're called Fanny packs; in the UK, the fanny is round the front, and only on women, so when we group of Brits were in Wyoming and overheard a guy taking a photo of his family and asking them to smile by saying "OK everyone, say fanny farts!" we knew it sounded perfectly innocent to him, but we couldn't help but fall about laughing!)

I'm still using my karrimor one from BITD, holds a normal size water bottle either side of the main compartment, nice quality as well from when karrimor was good gear!!

I've always used one as I can't stand backpacks, even for 'backpacking'!
Generally I use a small Karrimor job, but I ordered one of these from Norway a couple of years ago as it was the largest on the market: http://www.norrona.com/Products/0810-00 ... p-Pack-10L
..Combined with a large Ortlieb seatpack there's enough capacity for ultralight touring/camping.

Incidentally, I bought the Narrona for bivvying 'cause I reckon backpacks are a bit of a stupid idea - apart from a hot, sweaty back and straps digging into your shoulders it seems a really bad place to carry the load. With a huge hip-pack like this the weight's supported in a much more sensible, less stressful area and the upper body's totally free - you can even have your shirt off and tan your back. It can carry about 2-3 days worth of kit including food, bivvy bag, sleeping bag, stove, water filter etc. Only problem is I do look a bit of a tit! (it's worth it).

Second Up, does anyone still use one? Last night I was getting the kit ready for tonite's ride when I caught myself thinking, I really want something that can hold all the tools I need, but without the Water Bladder.. But not mounted on the Bike..

Just in case it hasn't already been said but have you tried Jersey Pockets?? ;)

I'm sure Saucony do a hydration belt thingy that holds a couple of water bottles. much like the ones already linked in fact.

I have at least 3.

1. a small camo bag with two pockets and mesh for small water bottle
2. medium size Alpine Lowe, lwo medium size pockets with space inbetween for water bottle
3. large red/black back with huge expanding pockets

.... I guess a photo would describe it far better..... later if I remember.

I use two on a pretty regular basis.

Mammut Bumbag
This should be available over there. Nice replacement for a seatbag with room for a bit more. I have the medium I think, but they also make S and L.

Arcteryx Q10
The other I use a LOT for day hiking, and likewise a couple times for longer bike rides. Looks like it has been discontinued, but I have got plenty of mileage out of this Arcteryx Q10--it is a really really nice design if you can find one.
