Great stuff about the unbranded Simplex levers, so many guys build up a full mavic groupset but have simplex branded gear levers.

It would have been great though if simplex branded their levers as mavic though.

sure are unbranded levers Ian (I originally had a simplex branded set ) , I also have a choice of 36H Open4CDs on model 500 hubs or 28/32 H GL330s on model 550 hubs too . I'm not sure about riding it though Mike Muz as I am way too heavy I feel

The Mavic Open4CD 36H are the strongest wheelset I know. They are capable to carry 250 pounds round the Vätternrundan (311 km) and other long distance rides without any failures and damage, as long as they are well made. No radial spokes but triple crossing with low flanges

freewheel hubs are know for breaking axles. I hope I will get away with it being under 80kg. I too have the simplex levers. Finding these mavic parts is not all that easy. Liking your build.

I wasn't aware of that problem. Is that just for alloy ones, or steel too?

For both as in a freewheel hub there is alot of unsupported axle to flex and fatigue then fail.
