Vittoria 1976 owners advice

Considering buying a pair of Vittoria 1976 shoes for primarily clips/straps, but also like they can also be used with SPD cleats.

When using them with clips and straps, how do you find them ? Worried that a slightly more built up sole to accommodate the space for a cleat would make them difficult to use with clips and straps.

I've ridden Giro Republics with an spd sole using toe clips, without a problem.The extra sole didn't make a difference. I also own vittoria 1976s and they are excellent btw

BTW, I have the stiff-soled version, and ridden them with clips and straps - without cleats - and that worked, but only just. I needed to keep the straps fairly tight in order not to slip out of the pedals.
