Motobecane town bike. Owners translation below.
This is my latest purchase.
I was looking for a rear wheel to replace the one on my Helium and came across this bike advertised 20 km from home.
Very reasonable price, decent condition according to the photos, still available, size corresponding to my build... I went and got it straight away.
The proportions made me worry a bit at first because of the size 59 combined with the 35mm 650B wheels. I'm also not a big fan of the handlebars.
Rear derailleur: Huret

Front and rear lights: Soubitez front light with Motobécane M logo
It's worth noting that this model is neither the 1977 nor the 1978 catalogue. It has the 78 deco, the 78 chain guard but the 1977 headlight.
It requires standard maintenance: basic dismantling, cleaning and greasing. The rear wheel may need replacing, as it's slightly deformed following an impact. The chromework is quite pitted classic Rigida Superchromix rim. The tyres are new but of poor quality, as is the uncomfortable BTwin seat. Even if I have to change the wheel, I'm thinking of going from three to five gears so I can climb hills faster or load more sticks on the luggage rack... and maybe even try to see what it looks like with 700 wheels. The bungee cord will also need replacing.
For the moment I've dismantled the crankset and just bent a key that will be reusable. I have a question about reassembly: the bearings are made up of 7 balls and are in perfect condition.

Original Bertin Demi course, going on randonneur. Owners translation below.
Tonight I'd like to share with you my latest acquisition, a beautiful Bertin bike in my size 58cm. So the guy who owned it was tall for his time. On the other hand, he must have had a duralimium bum, because the plastic saddle is incredibly hard and it goes right up to.......
Well, if it's just the saddle, we'll be able to put that right in no time.
As for the rest, it's in very good shape, with tyres that bounce back, even if they are a bit cracked and need changing soon. The mudguards shine without too much effort on my part. On the other hand, the brakes squeal like cats, which is rather annoying yet at the same time reassuring for the cars driving around who can't help but hear me. Maybe I just need to change the brake pads?
As far as equipment is concerned, it has a two-tone frame with not too much missing:
Solida crankset
Allvit derailleur
Durifort chainstays - what a name, it's both hard and strong!
Mafac racer brakes
I don't know what handlebars
Electricity at every level
Almost flawless stickers
And everything else you need to put luggage on it and ride it for a long time.
Once I'd bought it, I took it out for a 7-mile ride in the Paris suburbs... it's very easy and pleasant, a real pleasure, plus it's beautiful... what more could you ask for?

I'm like 100% sure and not alone when I say how this thread touched me and educated me.I've been vocal here. And will continue to be. There is support for these bikes, do some research, and just throw yourself in it all !!!!
