NOVY exhibited this original bicycle in which all the tubes, even the bases, uprights and sleeves, were square.

And we all know why they were square?

Back in the day the Guinness Guide To Bicycling was a great book available as a reference to cycling in the 70,'s

The book was available from Winchester library as reference only so we had to get our rocks off maybe once or twice a week on the way home from school.... the pages would fall open on special bikes..

I had <goes checks> HAVE a copy of that book. Doubt I've opened the thing for over 30 years. Wish I knew what happened to my CONI manual, think I loaned it to somebody who was planning to open a bike shop locally but then went walkabout - with my book.

I couldn't remember the name of the book but started lusting after a Pink Mercier so Googled it and eventually found the right image of it in a book for sale on eBay. Picked mine up a few years back for three quid posted ... still some on eBay, it's a great book with loads of colour pictures of French bikes and cyclists

Originally printed in French, English edition published a year later in 1977 which was when I bought mine for the then eye-watering price of £8.50, quite a wedge of the £39.80 before tax that I earned at the time.
