I had a Contour 300 I bought in 1996 which had a most impressive spec list compared to other brands at the time. A friend owned the Contour 500 which was top of the tree with a Reynolds frame and full higher end Shimano groupset, I was very jealous 
Yeah they were good quality bikes, at a competitive price, without a well-known brand name to sell them. The Edinburgh Bicycle Coop is still one of my 2 favourite bike shops in Edinburgh, along with The Bike Station.
