Vintage Colnago Mexico For Sale

I have decided to sell my early 80’s Colnago Mexico. I purchased the bike in 2007. The prior owner (who had owned it since ’90) had done a complete restoration on the bike some years before and had CyclArt in Southern California do their top of the line Cat. 1 Custom Refinish with a beautiful Saronni red paint job and all new stickers (that refinish alone runs $700-750 today). It appears as though CyclArt may have done some upgrades like provision for dual water bottle cages. He then retired the bike to display status. It is an early 80’s vintage bike and is 56 cm c-t (Colnago size 56).

It came to me equipped with a Super Record gruppo, Cinelli Model 63 bars, Cinelli stem, and Mavic GL 330 tubular rims (spokes soldered and tied) (wheels built by Spence Wolf).

Immediately after I received the bike I had it completely gone through by a local independent mechanic. The bike had some non-appropriate parts (like a Chris King headset) and some that just needed upgrading. The mechanic I chose has decades of experience in Tucson’s leading pro shop (the shop he worked in during the 70’s and 80’s was a Colnago dealer), now operates his own shop, and is also a multi-time Masters State and National Champion bike racer.

He installed the following parts after I purchased the bike: brand new out of the box Campy NR headset, new Selle San Marco Rolls saddle (with titanium rails and a smooth cover), new 7 speed genuine Regina freewheel, Colnago engraved Campagnolo brake levers, Colnago engraved Campagnolo shift levers, new American made steel rear axle cut to size, NOS Colnago engraved SR chain ring (the bike has an NR small ring), 2 new Ale chrome bottle cages w/NOS Campy bolts and washers, new gum rubber brake lever hoods (Campy World logo), new brake and shifter cables and white housings, NOS Campy crank bolt dust caps, and white Cinelli bar tape.

The bike will come with the Campy Record pedals that were on the bike when I purchased it with new Christophe Special toe clips (I upgraded these as the bike came with an off brand of clips and straps). I will give you the option of two different new vintage toe straps that I purchased for the bike. See photos.

I rode the bike a little after I got it, but it has been wall art and always stored inside ever since. It is absolutely gorgeous in the Giuseppe Saronni ’82 World Championship color scheme (he rode a Mexico to the title).

$2500. Buyer pays shipping. I handle all of the packing costs at my LBS.

Your lovely Colnago

I think it looks an awful lot better than this:

Agreed! The older frames were far more graceful that the current fatter, arched TT models that are so common.

Not all modern Colango's are like that.
Here's my current race bike -

Lovely bike but it needs matching tyres. I'd kill for it .Just a thought.

Tires are easy to change out.

My thought ws that whatever it had on it, someone would want something a bit different. So I left the tires on it that it had when I last rode it (one came with the bike and the other I put on after a flat).

Colnago

very nice, mine is similar age with C record...all original from new except bar tape and I swopped turbo saddle for Rolls... :)
