Value of a 2003 Specialized S-Works M5 Epic

Retro Newbie
Good morning, I was looking to buy a Specialized S-Works M5 Epic mountain bike from an acquaintance, but feel he is asking too much for it at £1500, I've been doing some research and am struggling to find a value for this bike given its age, its a lovely bike and in lovely condition, well looked after and maintained.
I just wondered if anyone here would be able to advise its approximate worth?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Apologies if this is in the wrong location

This is the in the 97 section so not going to get much response here. Not worth anything like the asking £1500 to be honest. It's a 2003 S-Works Epic looks stock with XTR, maybe that shimano crankset letting it down compared to a higher end one. £400-£590 range. Think it would have to be NEW OLD STOCK to get £1500+.

It's the first full suspension bike to win a UCI World Cup race but I believe slightly tainted as Belgian Filip Meirhaeghe later was banned but you could argue that was the times back then.

Nice bike but unless prices are shooting up still since COVID demand it's not worth a huge amount, the original owner would have paid £3000 new in 2003 which is where they may be getting the £1500 figure from slashing that price in half.

Appreciate the reply!
I think I got my wires crossed when posting and see now, thank you for putting me right!

Really appreciate the info too! Tbh I was considering making an offer of 500 due to the very minimal comparison I could find, I can appreciate a nice bike but am a mere novice myself so always glad to get asome info from those that are in the know. He did say it cost him somewhere in the region of 3000.

I'm guessing this is a bit late but I think the price is about right depending on specs and condition. I bought one new and sold it (here) around 2014 for £1,200. I instantly regretted selling and spent ages looking for another. Eventually I did find another in equally good condition for the same price.

One big issue is whether or not the rear shock has been reconditioned. It cost me £300 to get the "brain " working.

I'm now selling (again!) as I am not just using it. People's valuations will depend on whether they actually want to buy a pre carbon s works epic or not. I looked for years for a replacement and I could have bought one or two around the £700 but they weren't as original and the rear shock didn't work even though they typically claim it does.
